SoapNuts are the pods (or nut shells) from the soapnut tree - a natural, organic cleaning product which comes from an entirely renewable source that grows in tropical climates. The soapnut tree is a large deciduous tree with fleshy fruit like a berry. The skin of the berry (the soapnut) contains 12-15% saponin, which is similar to soap and is the active natural cleaning agent.
Soap nuts are natural, organic cleaning and are ideal for sensitive skin. They are extremely easy to use.
Soapnut shells contain saponin (a natural detergent) and when they come in contact with water, they make mild suds. Soapnuts are a natural, organic, environmentally friendly alternative to soap, detergent and shampoo. Soapnuts are so much cheaper than normal detergents. They cost less than 10p a wash compared with 25p (and more) for standard non-bio detergents. They do not pollute our environment and are considered renewable primary products.

Naturally Brilliant!! review by Alison on 23/10/2015
I particularly love the versatility of soap nuts as well as my skin being alot happier since using them! I wash my bedding, delicates and general garment washing. If some thing is stained I recommend pre treating with Wikaniko's Dri Pack soda crystals or the laundry oxygen bleach by Bio D which are also brilliant products...Thank You Soap Nuts ;)
Brilliant! review by Kate on 20/10/2015
These are GREAT value for money.
I have a young family and a bag lasts us around 3 months!! I don't have to worry about any nasties going through to my children either!
For tougher stains that my boys produce I pair it with Eco Stain!
So happy Mummy, as there's no nasties and good for the environment and happy Daddy, as we're saving money too!
Love Love Love these review by Michelle on 22/09/2015
Used them for first time today and not only do they wash well my clothes were sooo soft. Im so impressed with these, I put them in an old sock as I forgot to buy the bag ha ha. But I will be getting one! I will be telling everyone about these ! They are a must buy !
Wow! review by Kelly on 29/05/2015
I am totally gobsmacked at the results I got from the soap nuts. My washing comes out totally clean, if I'm honest I did not expect them to work so well but I was intrigued so tried them.
I will not use washing powder again, the soap nuts are amazing, and as my daughter has eczema I don't have to worry about the clothes irritating her skin any longer.
Delighted is an understatement. Try them!
Amazing product review by Linda on 11/03/2015
I have tried and tested soap nuts to their limits-trust me!
I am so impressed, washing my clothing clean, leaving a clean and fresh smell.
No softners needed!
Impressed! review by Linda on 05/03/2015
Well I really thought this product was pie in the sky stuff!,
How wrong am I ! I have done 10 machine washes using the soap nuts.
Love it- will not be going back to chemicals again.
Addicted to these for the washing review by Frances on 05/12/2014
I was sceptical about these before I tried them but had been told by others they are great.
Bought a bag to try and ran out normal powder so gave them a go. I haven't gone back to the powder.
I find I get about 4-6 washes when I use about 6 of them in a net. As a busy family the machine is on everyday so they have saved us money as they are much more economical.
Clothes seem to irritate us less as well after using them another plus point!
Perfect review by Sharon on 11/11/2014
Simply brilliant... washing comes out of the machine without that nasty chemical smell, just fresh and soft. I sometimes add a drop of essential oil to rougher fabrics.
Fantastic washing without all the nasties! review by Sarah on 29/06/2014
I've just used these for the first time and was really impressed. I put a few drops of an orange essential oil on the bag and my washing came out lovely and clear with a much nicer smell than the usual chemical perfumes. It even cleaned sheets which had been walked over & slept on by my cats and therefore had lots of stains (mud & other things!) Only thing it doesn't do is whiten as it doesn't contain any bleaching agent so I'm going to try the BioD Laundry Oxygen bleach next time I do sheets that need a bit more whitening. Colours all came out beautiful & vibrant.
Great for light washes and every day cleaning review by Amy on 24/06/2014
I was sceptical of using these at first but I've found them to be very good.
The drawer on my washing machine is broken so I used to have to buy tabs. I use a handful of soapnuts with the soapnut bag and they've already lasted me twice as long as the tabs I normally have to buy - and I'm not half way through them yet. Being able to reuse them a few times is very handy, I just leave them in the bag in the drum, ready for the next load.
They leave my laundry with a clean soapy smell and fabrics feel just as soft as with any other product.
The only problem is that they're not very strong - if you want to get rid of stronger stains then you will have to use something else as well. I discovered this when trying to wash some re-usable face wash pads that were covered in foundation and dark eye makeup. Food stains and day to day stains seem to come up no problem, however.
I will happily buy them again and be glad that I don't have to keep forking over money for a scant few liquid tabs!
A lovely natural product! review by Alexandra on 16/06/2014
I'd never heard of these before until I found them on the Wikaniko site and I was pleasantly surpised! Lovely and gentle on my washing, whilst still getting rid of stains that everyday detergents failed to!
Wish I'd known about these years ago! review by Nicky on 03/05/2014
How amazing! What a fantastic natural product. I love using different essential oils depending on my mood or what I am washing.
If I'm washing the bedding I use lavender and my little boy likes orange scent added to his clothes washing.
Amazed! review by Lynne on 12/03/2014
I have just put my first load of washing through its paces after receiving these and I am simply amazed. Everything has come out super clean (we're a messy lot too, kids, animals etc). It smells super fresh. I am never going back to powder!
Love them review by Paul on 27/01/2014
These are fantastic we love . We did three loads the other day with the same nuts and the washing was clean and fresh. This is what we will be using from now on.
What a pleasant surprise! review by Donna on 27/12/2013
I was amazed by this product. I combined them with lavender essential oil because one of the things I was concerned about was loosing that fresh laundry smell and it worked!! My husband is an aircraft engineer and these things even cleaned his coveralls efficiently and rid them of chemical smell. Very impressed. Also getting rid of detergent altogether has rid our household of skin problems and eczema! I have now fully converted over to them for everything as they seem fine to wash at any temperature. I REALLY recommend these. Out on one batch of soap nuts I have had the same amount of use as would have cost me £12 for detergent! We are looking at a quarter of the price!
This is Nuts review by Syd on 15/12/2013
I was skeptical of these but i am convinced these are a great way of cleaning your clothes, they are economical, and with a drop of lavender oil my clothes smell really nice,i will not be going back to washing detergents again...if you have skin complaints you must be NUTS NOT TO BE USING THESE.
Soapy Nuts!? Who'd Have Thought! review by Tonia on 25/11/2013
Highly recommend this. I have to be careful of detergents due to my children's sensitive skin. These soap nuts work very well and are extremely cost effective. I suspect you could get at least 40 washes per bag - probably more.
I soak the soap nuts in some hot water before first usage, just for a minute or two. I find that this is particularly helpful for lower temp washes as it helps to release the saponin in the soap nuts.
I also add some soda crystals (London water is ridiculously hard!) and some lemonbalm essense for the extra fresh smell.
Am going to start making my own soap nut washing liquid next so I can use it for handwashing too.
Buy these - you won't regret it!
Crazy but true! review by Julia on 10/11/2013
Who would have thought that some strange knobbly nuts could not only clean our washing but also help to care for the washing machine and the environment too! We all have sensitive skin so using these is helping us too.
Excellent product review by Yetunde on 30/10/2013
Having read the facts about the soap nuts I decided to try it out. I washed my babies cloth with them, I added the lavender oil and the clothes were properly clean and had a very lovely smell. I would recommend the soapnut to everyone.
Many customers really delighted with these. review by Jenny on 23/09/2013
Have been promoting these at shows for last couple of months having first tried them myself.
I really love using them my washing feel so soft and clean so it makes it easy to tell people about them.
soap nutter review by Louise on 28/08/2013
I love soap nuts! They're just brilliant: cheap, natural and you can stick them in the compost when they're finished. I like using either orange or lavender essential oil with them, plus a spoonful of soda crystals as I live in a hard water area. Give them a go!
Love these review by sarah on 27/08/2013
Ive wanted to try these for ages but always been a bit skeptical. Well after 3 loads I'm a convert. The washing is clean, smells fresh and is lovely and soft. No need for fabric conditioner! Love that they are natural, no nasty chemicals and can be composted once used
Remember the smell of clean washing review by Paula on 24/08/2013
I used these on a white wash to start with and just loved the fact that the clothes smelt of clean material not ruby and jasmin or some other such rubbish! The whites are bright, and deals with muck too. I think these are fab, use 3 or 4 times and then pop in the compost heap.
very impressed review by Jacqui on 20/08/2013
Amazed and impressed that these little brown nuts can get my washing clean at 30 degrees! Good value too.
Very Eco-Friendly and do a Great Job review by Adele on 19/08/2013
I have been using soap nuts for over a year now and I am always pleased with the results. I feel really happy not to be polluting the earth with all the conventional clothes washing products. :-)
Strange but true! review by Caroline on 05/08/2013
Yes, they really do work!
After doing some "normal" washing I was half way to being convinced - I then went on a hunt for some dirtier washing and I am now converted.
So nice to think that not only do they work but they are so much better for us.
Curiously Fantastic! review by Fiona on 19/07/2013
When I first heard of these I was a bit dubious as to whether they would work or not. But having tried them I am now hooked!
They make your washing nice and fresh and softer than using fabric conditioner without that horrible chemical smell.
Use a bit of essential oil or a sprig of Rosemary to make it smell a bit fresher but otherwise a great product at a great price. I am now hooked!
WOW review by Imane on 05/06/2013
When I first heard of these I was actually excited due to the fact that nearly everyone in the family have sensitive skin and even non bio's can sometimes be an issue, My first wash was towels that had been dragged around on the ground by my granson and were really dirty...one wash with the soap nuts and they were all clean and not a mark on them and even without softener added to the wash they were softer than before too...I will NOT be going back to normal detergent.
Amazing review by Dawn on 02/06/2013
In a nut shell (pardon the pun) I am amazed! Clean clothes, and by adding a couple of drops of lavender oil to the bag the washing smells divine! So economical and fantastic results.
Amazballs review by Imane on 01/06/2013
I am never going back to using washing powder again! These have already eased skin complaints that the usual non-bio powders failed to help with. With Myself and my Grandson having skin complaints its important we use as few chemicals as possible, this is great because now i use none :)
Washes better and softer than my other powder too so its all for the best :D
Soap nuts - the answer review by Phillip on 27/05/2013
Soap Nuts are brilliant, these little nuts are of the same genus as the Lychee. They are anti microbial and work so well, just 3 or 4 nuts will wash up to 4 loads of washing - amazing and no chemicals - try them, do the 'sniff test' and become hooked :)
great review by Jackie on 11/05/2013
really love these. Been using them for washing this week and so far so good. Very impressed in fact 3 soap nuts did 4-5 loads of washing . The washing felt so clean and fresh and soft.
fab review by Jackie on 10/05/2013
Great results so far. Even on whites! 3 little soap nuts have managed 4 washes so far :) fab on my sensitive skin too. Very very impressed with these
Love them, will continue to use them review by Jane on 17/04/2013
I've been using them for almost a month, still using my first bag, and I must say, I've been impressed. I've had no trouble in getting clothes clean, and these are so economical, being able to reuse each batch two or three times. My sons eczema flare up has been easing, and I know his clothes won't be adding to his problem. At this price, they are kind to the purse, I'm not only saving on detergent, but fabric conditioner too. I will not be going back to normal detergent
